Executive Interpretation of Rule 15.5.1 Under-Tray

The rule currently reads; Shall be of non-perforated sheet of a minimum 1.2mm for steel and aluminium or 2.0 for fiberglass. The floor tray shall have no void large enough to permit any part of the driver’s body to pass through.

Under Rule 4.1 The following interpretation has been adopted by the Executive; Regarding the underlined segment.

With the kart on the ground and the driver in the normal driving position (seated, both hands on the steering wheel & feet at the brake & throttle controls) if any part of his body can pass through an adjacent void and protrude below the main frame (ie reach the ground)

If the kart fails this examination then normal fault rule applies.

Scrutineers will have to assess if either of the drivers heels, under the above requirements, can protrude through any void in the stub axle area and reach the ground.

It would be appreciated if you would convey this ruling to you Club’s scrutineers and also to your local Kart manufacturers.

This ruling does not in any way negate the motion that was carried at the recent Council meeting. “All karts shall have floor trays fitted, following the contours of the chassis, with a maximum gap of 20mm between the floor tray and the chassis. All karts will have to comply by 1/02/2010.”

Yours faithfully
